R-4 Belly Leaker

WyrTwister on Fri May 16, 2014 1:38 PM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 1991
Make: Chevy
Model: 1991
Engine Size: 5.0l
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Country of Origin: United States

Belly leakier - R4 . Tried to get it apart to replace seals / o-rings .

Got the " hub " off , that contains the shaft seal .

Could not get the " ends " out of the round steel " barrel / shell " .

Noticed the end opposite the shaft had a tab bent over , that might hold it in ? Bent that out of the way w/o any improvement .

Gave up and put it back together .

Suggestions / help please ?

Thanks ,
Wyr
God bless

I went through at least five R4 compressors in a 1988 and a 1994 Suburban (R-12 for first, R134a for the 1994).
