90 E350 ackit vs oem capacities

Year: 1990
Make: Ford
Model: E350
Engine Size: 7.3
Country of Origin: United States

This is my first post on the forum, I'm hoping someone here might help.

I have a 1990 Ford E350 van, 7.3 diesel, that never had air conditioning installed. I decided to install a complete AC kit from AMA, since I had good results with one of their kits in another vehicle a few years ago. The question I have is about the oil capacity. The AMA kit comes with 5 ounces in the compressor, and a bottle with 2 more ounces for the accumulator, for a total of 7 ounces. I installed the system using this amount of oil and it worked fine for a few months until one of the Ford spring-lock connectors let go. I removed the compressor and drained about 1/2 ounce out of it, and then decided I would just flush the entire system and replace the accumulator so I can get the oil amount right, because I don't know how much sprayed out when the hose popped off.

The capacity chart elsewhere on this forum shows a system total of 10 ounces for this model year. I realize the OEM system would have been R12 and mineral oil, but the kit uses the same evaporator and accumulator. The only real difference in the components that might possibly affect capacity is the compressor.

Should I add a little more than 7 ounces oil when I close it back up?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, 7.5 ounces would be correct.
