AC will not accept a full charge

Year: 2005
Make: Jeep
Model: Liberty
Engine Size: 6 CYL
Refrigerant Type: R134
Ambient Temp: 58

I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty that I completely evacuated and when I attempted to put in 1.38 pounds of refrigerant per specification... I cannot get the system to accept more than 1 pound. Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be? Plugged expansion valve or receiver drier?

Cans or a tank? A can fits under your armpit, tanks are normally too large for this. Bucket of hot water works. AC system is getting plenty of engine heat, that can has got to be warmer to increase its pressure for can to system flow.

If there isn't enough pressure differential between the tank and the car, it won't go in. With 1 out of 1.4 lbs, there is enough charge to start the system, so you can elect to add the last 0.38 lb as vapor through the low side with the system on.
