How much oil to addafter a large leak.

Year: 1995
Make: jaguar
Model: xjr6
Country of Origin: United Kingdom

The compressor removed from the car after a large oil leak had a very small amount of oil drained from it. the system holds 160-200ml of pag 46 . If the compressor was almost empty am I safe to add the minimum amount of oil 160 mil and assume the rest of the system still has 40 ml left in it ? the compressor is mounted low on the engine of this car. The compressor is a Denso 10PA17 and wondered howmuch to put direct into the compressor . 90ml and the rest in the system ?

Thanks for your help.

Without flushing the system, there is no way to know how much oil is left in the system.. If you don't want to flush the system, it's a crap shoot...I'd add an ounce and a half.. but of course that's just a guess....
Are you putting the original compressor back on? if so add a half ounce to it and the rest anywhere..won't take long to be thru the system.. Hope this helps..

More oil never harms the system, whereas the opposite can damage the compressor in the long run.

Has to disagree a Little on having too much oil. Too much oil will kill a compressor as well as provide poor performance overall.

What, your AC system doesn't have a dipstick? Come to think of it, neither does mine. Could go back to a early 60's York with an oil sight glass.
