Hello, a humming noise seems to be coming from the air con compressor and I am wondering if this is something I should be worried about. This sound is only apparent when it is warm outside but it becomes louder with an increase in outside temperature and fan speed. It seems to be related to compressor load because the sound is not as loud when the fan is on the lowest setting and the system is set to recirculate. The condenser fan works and there is good air flow through the condenser. I checked the low side pressure and it was approaching 4 Bar with the fan on the highest setting and the system set to outside air. On recirc and the lowest fan speed the pressure was only 2 Bar. Compressor discharge temperature was 85C and liquid line temperature was 60C on outside air and high fan speed. It cools well and the only problem is the noise. I was thinking there may be a restriction in the condenser but I would like to hear more ideas. Youtube Video

I could not hear any sound in the think. But many Sanden's have a rumble in that range.

Ok. I remember the compressor always made a quite rumble or humm sound in that RPM area when the weather was hot, but the sound just seems to be much worse now. Also, I noticed the low pressure schrader valve was leaking slightely but it seems to have stopped. I think the noise may be caused by low refrigerant, so I will replace the valve, vac, and weight in 400g of refrigerant. Hopefully the compressor will become quieter.
Sounds like a plan.

The compressor is now much quieter with the correct refrigerant charge.
