O-ring kit - V5 compressor ?

WyrTwister on Fri June 14, 2013 6:12 AM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 1996
Make: Chevy
Model: Lumina 4 door sedan
Engine Size: 3.1L
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Country of Origin: United States

I may have messed up . Certainly would not be the first time . :-(

I bought an o-ring & gasket kit for a GM V5 compressor . Is that the correct one for the 96 Lumina ? Does it use the V5 ?

I hope I lucked out and got it right ? I had planned , everything else permitting , to repair the compressor , this weekend .

Thanks , :-)
God bless

All 3.1L engines use the V-5 from that era....You are good tyo go-- I reseal those in my sleep....

-------------------------
The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

Thank you for the reassurance ! :-)

I had previously replaced the shaft seal . That did not stop it . Then , I did the UV dye and penlite . It is a belly leaker . :-(

Is it necessary to replace the shaft seal , again ?

Thanks again , :-)

God bless

Only if you don't use a seal protector when dissassembling.
