pressure released while my truck was idling

Year: 2002
Make: ford
Model: f150
Engine Size: 5.4
Refrigerant Type: r134
Country of Origin: United States

My 2002 f-150 released pressure from Ac. I had gone to the store an I left my truck running an when I came out I heard the pressure releasing from the Ac. I think it came from the compressor. Turned the Ac on an off an it stop. But now its not cooling like it used to. Does any one know what it could be ?

Start looking for refrigeration oil . It came out with the freon .

As for as why , that is the second part of the quest .

Did , by chance , the engine over heat , also ?

God bless

Probably got hot due to bad fan or fan clutch, built up high pressure, so the pressure relief valve did its job. But you likely lost refrigerant and refrigerant oil.

i wasnt aware ac systems had a pressure releif valve. its kinda seems that way, i did an ac recharge for someone and as soon as i started to add a third can the compressor(or the general area) puff really loudly and 134a released for about 1 or 2 seconds. it did this in max air at any rpm over idle.

Were you using proper a/c gauge set? No reason to blow out a relief valve while changing if you know the low and high side pressures.

There are signs of oil on the frame by the Ac compressor. So it could be my fan clutch, I'll check it tomorrow. I just replaced the fan clutch. That or I'll install an eclectic fan on the front to help out. Thanks
