Orfice Tube

Year: 1991
Make: Chevy
Model: Caprice
Engine Size: 5.0L
Refrigerant Type: R134A
Country of Origin: United States

Retrofitting this Caprice to R134A . I live in a climate where the summer time temp often runs 100 degrees F . Occasionally 110 and every once in a while 115 .

I have read of the orifice tubes for 105 + climates . Is this a good idea ?

Also , read of orifice tubes that give enhances cooling at idle and low speed city driving ?

Are these one in the same thing ?

Advice would be appreciated .

Thanks , :-)

Sound like you're describing the variable orfice tubes. Saty away from them.

Could be a variable orifice tube ? Do not know much about it ?

So , these are a bad idea ? Do they give trouble ? What kind of trouble ?

Most likely I will leave the EOM orifice tube in place . I do not think there is anything wrong with it .

But , for my information , If I ever have to mess with it , does anyone know of or have a drawing or diagram that would indicate its physical location ?

Thanks , :-)

The tube is in the inlet to the evaporater. I'd try a yellow one myself as I've had good luck with them but since your retrofitting the car the R134a may not work too swell when it's that hot there.

BTW watch the hoses where they rub on the upper control arms on this car. They will rub through if not covered. Are you near Vegas or PHX?

I will look at the hoses & see if they are rubbing on anything .

No , I live in the state that was once a Republic . Further east and south .

Thanks ,
