Hey im looking to buy a robinair model 17500b and I wanted to know first if i can make it work with r134a. What excatly will I need and is it worth it. Thank you
anybody?
Can it be done....sure with enough money and time. Should it be done? I would suggest no. If you own a shop, retrofitting this machine to 134a would void all under writings and if some one is hurt using the machine...well the law suit would make the purchase of a acceptable 134a machine very attractive. Another issue is that this machine lacks the efficiency to properly charge late model 134a systems. Charge rate is very critical for proper lube migration within the system.
Since there is no value posted and considering the possible retro material cost....and the inability of the machine to perform correctly with 134a....why not bite the bullet and spend the cash to obtain a proper piece of equipment. Check with the tool guys for trade in's or repo's. Many jobbers have sales on the newer machines and this maybe the best alternative.
Good luck!
