Chevy Suburban in South America - AC system rebuild

CDS on Sun January 13, 2013 9:53 AM User is offline

Year: 1983
Make: Chevy
Model: Suburban Diesel
Engine Size: 6.2L
Refrigerant Type: R12
Country of Origin: Brazil

Hi,

First of all I am new to this forum and have no much experience with A/C.
I am rebuilding a 1983 diesel Suburban to drive from IN to Brazil and in places that temperature will be over 100 degrees for almost all year around. So, I really need an efficient A/C system installed. Anyways, The truck has the front evaporator and now I am adding the rear one (It didn't came with the truck).
I am thinking about replace all parts (compressor, condenser, evaporator, etc) But my main questions are:
- Should I convert from R12 to R134
- Should I upgrade the compressor? Is it necessary? Mine is Harrison model #1131197
- Should I upgrade the condenser? I heard that converting R12 to R134 it will be important.

Thanks a lot for your time

Cliff

I sure cant get those trucks to work on R134a. I'd definatly keep it R12.
