BVA Auto 100 Ester Glow / UV DYE

Spasske on Wed September 26, 2012 3:39 PM User is offline

What exactly is the glow part? Is it just easier to spot an oil leak because of the color or does it contain some type of UV dye as well? I have some and was wondering if I should add some dye as well for futurure trouble shotting.

If I want to add dye with refrigerant is one can with the dye included suffient?

Thanks!

BVA adds a florescent dye to this oil, thus the Glo.

The "glow" oil contains the same UV dye as is in the cans. If you use that as the oil you don't need additional dye.

One can of 134a + dye contains enough for a typical system. Use that as the first can and plain 134a for the rest. That treatment lasts the life of the system unless you were to flush out most or all the oil, taking the dye with it.

So to detect a leak in the future, I could just shine a black light and I'll see a glow? Nothing with just the naked eye?

Use the black lite and supplied glasses. I know the glasses look like toys but they can be of benefit for locating leaks. Also, back up a 'UV' test with a good leak detector. It is possible to have evidence of 'UV' and this not be evidence of a refrigerant leak, exp around orings and case seals.

What do the glasses do? Help you see the glow in daylight?

I've always just searched in the dark for the glow (with UV light).........

There are dye stains you won't see without the glasses- even in the dark- Believe me the glasses are completely necessary....no matter how stupid you look.

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

Where do you get the glasses?
