How Much Oil for R12 AC System

Roger3 on Thu August 23, 2012 4:37 PM User is offline

Year: 1967
Make: Chevy
Model: Camaro
Engine Size: 350
Refrigerant Type: R12
Ambient Temp: 70
Country of Origin: United States

How much mineral oil does my 67 camaro AC system need?

It's the stock AC system. I took it all apart and flushed all components (compressor, evaporator, and condensor). Installing new drier, new hoses, and o-rings.

Going back with R12.

I just bought the car and the AC would blow but not very hard, and barely cool. I took the AC system all apart to flush it, clean the evaporator core box (it was full of leaves, acorns, etc), change all hoses and o-rings, replace gaskets and seals in AC box and heater box. Just putting it back together. I did this to my 71 corvette and it blows good and cold, hoping for same success with this one.

Thanks,

Roger

Oil capacities back then were pretty much standard with the A-6 compressor: 10.5 ounces of 525 mineral oil. Correct factory refrigerant charge for your Camaro is 3 lbs of R-12.

Sounds like you're doing this right, so their shouldn't be any problems. Cleaning the evaporate case is a great idea.
