Inlaws car ... not cooling so they just wanted a can added....
- would not do anything without BOTH hi and lo....
So pressure is equaled off- started and compressor kicked and stayed in...
low goes LOW 15-20... high climbed close to 300 then stabilized @270?
stays there?

Sounds like you could have a stuck TXV. Run the engine at around 1,500 RPM and shock the valve (should be a block type TXV) with hot and ice cold water, and observe the pressures. You should see some good movement on the low side if the valve is functioning correctly. If not, the valve is probably stuck shut, but when pulling the system apart, check the inlet for contamination... could be the beginning of the compressor coming apart... then you know the deal... compressor, TXV, condenser, dryer, lines with mufflers or filters need to go, and everything else flushed.

As an additional test, run the engine at 1,500-2,000 RPM and allow the system to stabilize. Now partially cover the condenser to bring the high side up to 350-375 PSI and observe the low side. If it starts rising or fluctuates, the TXV is likely weak.
