Accumulator questions?

Sellncars on Tue July 10, 2012 6:26 PM User is offline

Year: 1997
Make: GMC
Model: K1500 Sierra
Engine Size: 5.7
Refrigerant Type: R134A
Ambient Temp: 90
Pressure Low: 35
Pressure High: 230
Country of Origin: United States

Hello again everyone,

My problem started with a leaking Accumulator, so i made the mistake of going to Auto Zone for the part, replaced it, vacuumed system, recharged and could not get it cold enough for my liking. 50.5 sitting still, 55-57 degrees in the center vent. Then i found the high side fitting leaking on the hose assembly, once again replaced with an aftermarket part, replaced it and again vacuumed system down, recharged and it still doesn't get cold. Sitting still it will get down to 50.5 , but it goes up to 57. + while driving down the highway. Will an aftermarket accumulator make the system warmer?

Sorry:

Ambient was 90
Low side is : 35
High side: 230

I see no pressure readings listed. How much refrigerant was added each time. No an aftermarket accumulator is not the reason you have poor cooling.

Check the that diverter doors are closing correctly. With a low side at 35psi the core is cold.

I thought about the blend air door, so i tried a few times to see if it went to HOT and it did and i can hear the door open and close.

There is one thing that i didn't check now that you mentioned getting heat inside. Where the fitting comes through the firewall, i think maybe the grommet may have slid somewhat inside, maybe some plumbers putty around it?

Clamp the heater hose off for 15 minutes and see if cooling improves...

Unless the aftermarket parts are from Tim, you're probably asking for aggravation with after market parts.
