2008 Saturn Vue

jimjimmac on Wed June 06, 2012 1:55 PM User is offline

Year: 2008
Make: Saturn
Model: Vue
Refrigerant Type: 134A
Country of Origin: United States

Brought 08' Saturn in for re-charge to dealer (51,000 miles). They pressure tested and it held pressure. They recharged (he said at 35 psi) and took it around the block for a test run. Mechanic said it did blow cold air.

I left dealer and on highway it did not blow cold air. I returned to dealership. They said there was now a blown seal, freon was gone, and had to replace the compressor because the additional operating pressure must have blown the seal during the test run.

This was at a big dealership in the Minneapolis area. Final cost was $829. I still wonder how it held pressure during the pressure test prior to putting in the freon, and how it could have blown out under operating pressure during the test run. Does this sound correct?

It can happen. I have had vehicles check out in the shop and then blow a hose the next day.
