Oil add for new compressor

rschmitt2 on Wed June 06, 2012 7:20 AM User is offline

I have a 96 Civic and an 97 Accord that both had AC clutches fail. I decided to replace the whole compressor clutch assemblies, but I am confused about adding oil. Here are the instructions that came with the new compressors:

Civic: "This A/C compressor has been pre-filled with PAG oil. Do not drain. Add the correct type and amount per your system requirements"

Accord: "Compressors are shipped with assembly lube or ICE 32. DO NOT DRAIN. Add the correct type and amount of lubricant per specific system specifications.

The Honda service manuals aren't much help: "For compressor replacement, subtract the volume of oil drained from the removed compressor from 4 1/3 ounces and drain the calculated amount from the new compressor"
