Oil fill port and oil amount

CyFi on Fri April 06, 2012 8:53 PM User is offline

Year: 1987
Make: Mazda
Model: B2000
Engine Size: 2.0
Refrigerant Type: R12

Bought this truck with the ac not working pretty recently. Had R134a fittings on it and a hole in one of the lines. Got the lines all fixed up, had the lines and heat exchangers flushed, and had the compressor rebuilt. This particular truck has a Sanden 508 compressor. Right now the system is dry. I am going to be using R12, so I will be using mineral oil.

My question is first off how much oil should I add to this particular system? I made sure the compressor had no oil in it before I installed it.

The company that rebuilt the compressor put a sticker that indicated to fill oil at the top, where there seems to be a fill plug. Should I remove this plug and add my oil in there, or do I need to take the compressor back off and fill through the suction port? Only reason I am concerned about filling through the top plug is I don't know what seals this plug, I am afraid if I break it loose it may potentially leak when I put it back. Any help would be great, thanks.

4.6 to 5.9 oz oil. I would fill thru suction port and turn compressor 6 to 10 turns.

It's a Sanden. So filling through the fill plug is a good option.

OK thank you guys for the quick response! TRB what exactly seals the fill plug? Is there some sort of sealing washer? Anything I need to worry about replacing when removing the plug?

O-ring. If you don;t over tighten it. No need to replace it.
