Hi, guys:
My '97 Sable is leaking from the high-side service port valve. I looked in there to see if it had a replaceable Schrader valve, and found a little piece of loose black rubber. Under that, it's just black. Doesn't look as if I can do anything with it, the way I could with a Schrader valve.
The port itself looks removable, like a separate part of the pipe. I searched ackits.com and didn't see the part listed.
Any ideas where to find one? Tips on replacing it? (I know I'll have to evacuate and recharge.)
Grab the aluminum part with plyers and remove it by unscrewing it. (assuming that the system is empty). I replace every one on every car I work on because they are so failure prone.
The site sponsor as well as any auto parts store will have a new one.
Thanks! I found one locally at McCain's (Dallas). The counter guy even gave me the "shop" price and loaned me his 8-sided socket tool - without my asking - so I could go out and crack the fitting.
Two lbs. of R-134 later, I'm comfortable again.
I can't say enough good things about McCain's.
