01 Chrysler Grand Voyager A/C Advice

Year: 2001
Make: Chrysler
Model: Grand Voyager SE RG

Hi there

I have an issue with my climate control on my voyager. What happens is when I leave from work and the engine is cold I can turn on the A/C and it operates normally all the way home, even after the engine has fully warmed up. Now if I try and turn on the A/C after the engine is warm, then all I get is very slightly cold air. I am planning on seeing if the clutch is engaging on the weekend, I haven't yet as it is a bit of a mission to get at it, but I can hear it engaging. I felt the pipes when it wasn't working an they are slightly cold, nowhere near what they should be. Both radiator fans are working and the blower motor is also working. What do you think this is?

Thanks for helping

Clutch gap? Won't pull in when hot.

How can I tell if that is happening or not?

I also checked the pipes when it wasn't working, they are mildly cold. I am going to check the compressor clutch to see if it is engaging, and have the car plugged into a ac machine to test the pressures. I had it checked for the pressures before and they almost equal. Its strange that it does get cold sometimes and not others, when I can definitely hear the compressor engaging. If the gas is low, does the pressure decrease as the engine heats up?. Can the compressor sometimes work and sometimes not, if electrically is all fine?

Look at the compressor and see if the front plate is spinning. Also the plate can get loose on the compressor shaft so it might pull in but the compressor itself doesn't turn, but that is usually permanent.

Alright thanks, I'll check it out. So if that is what it is, does that mean the clutch needs to be replaced or just adjusted?. If it isn't that, do you think moisture in the lines could be the culprit?.

I checked it out the compressor is engaging both hot and cold, but I think I found the culprit. I can see a leak near the compressor that was bubbling after it heated up.

How difficult is this to replace, how long is it?
