Year: 1989
Make: Chev
Model: Corvette
Engine Size: 5.7
Refrigerant Type: R12
I'm in the process of re-sealing a Denso 10PA compressor, just waiting on my parts from AC Kits. Forgot to order a new orifice tube so now I've got to get that.
I was under the impression that there was a different orifice tube for R12 and R134a freon? All the parts stores around me list the same tube for the car thru 1994. Just so happens that 1994 was the first year for the Corvette to use 134A freon. Mine has R12 freon.
Am I wrong on the different tube for R12 and R134a?
Thanks
Joel
You probably don't want to use the original GM white .072" orifice with R-134a; better off with the Ford blue at .067" or even the Ford red or GM yellow at .062".
Best bet though would be to keep the system R-12 and keep the original GM white orifice. Corvette owners typically end up disappointed with retrofits, since the R-12 systems were marginal to begin with.
