my main line has about a 1/4 inch of frost on it but the air is blowing warm/hot..any idea what may be causing this? ( the compessor runs)

If it's frosty (not an expert) it's coming back to the compressor cold from evap.
So it appears to be working. Check to see if the vent system is functioning properly. You should be getting cold air....
Perhaps a blockage or maybe a bad linkage in the vent system
Frosting could indicate the evaporator is also frosted over. When that happens, air cannot flow through it and get cold. So you have a reduced flow of warm air. The system controls (on most American trucks, a cycling switch) may be malfunctioning and allowing the frost-up to occur. Such a system will cool great for a period of time then change to warm air at a reduced flow.
