I've been ordered by my superior to use " mechanic in a can" because the customer didn't want to spend the money on the repair. I feel dirty, i need a shower now...

I'm sure you guys will get the blame from the customer when the "mechanic in a can" causes bigger issues. Hopefully it was explained to them what can happen by using that stuff.

I was getting off work the other day and a guy I work with was using that stuff on his car out in the parking lot. I told him that it wasn't the best stuff to use and could cause other problems but he didn't care. He also told me that he had just done this a week prior and it had all leaked out. I told him he must have a large leak and that stuff he was using probably wasn't going to fix his leak. I left just shaking my head.

So you work for a real winner. Sorry to hear that.

Doing something that could damage a customer's car rather than making no repair at all is over the top. If he does enough of that you will be looking for a job anyway, so I would start now.

A guy like that will blame the technician when a customer comes back mad as wet cat - so this will be your fault if it comes back.

A customer like that, you should just close the hood and send him on his way. It's going to get real expensive for your shop otherwise.

We explained to him that it wasn't a good idea. He provided the product, I just put it in. I told the guy that we wouldn't be responsible for any further damage that would eventually happen and that when the time came I'd be happy to fix it the right way. I did however spank out the evap, condenser, r/d, compressor and txv on an 01 Saturn today and when i was finished you could have used the car as a meat locker.

It's a tough balance anymore to compete with Mr. Dollar fit it and a proper repair.
