What does your neighbor say, since he diagnosed and charged the system? What do the instructions for the kit say?

Since this is Canada... any idea what type of refrigerant he put in it?

If someone isn't aware of proper specs - or proper service procedures - they really shouldn't be messing with it. That's not doing you a favor. What if someone offered to change your oil and didn't know how many quarts to add, would that be doing you a favor.

Also, how was the leaking low side valve fixed?

Both high and low side readings are necessary for proper initial diagnosis, so please provide us with both high side (discharge) and low side (suction) pressure readings, and the ambient temperature they were taken at. Pressure readings should be taken as follows:

Engine running at 1,500 RPM
Temperature selector on MAX cold and RECIRCULATE
Blower on HIGH
Door and windows OPEN

As an additional diagnosis, the refrigerant should be recovered and the system charged to spec, that's the only way to ensure a proper charge.

Or you can get the tools and complete the necessary repairs yourself... and you'll have the tools for other vehicles for future repairs.

Everything you need is pretty much here:

DIY Starter Kits

Plus, you've got the forum for questions...
