A-6 pulling it's own vacuum

jajh1 on Tue July 19, 2011 2:19 PM User is offline

Year: 1962
Make: Chevrolet
Model: Impala
Engine Size: 409
Refrigerant Type: R134-A
Ambient Temp: 90
Pressure Low: 50
Pressure High: 175
Country of Origin: United States

Woke up this morning and evacuated the system. Down to 28" vacuum. Recharged system with 48 oz r134A. The original refrigerant was R-12 and it took 60 oz. I went to work and it was cooling. Probably 48 degrees at vent. Went to lunch and had nothing. Went home put gauges on and found that it had 10 lb pressure so I started the engine and the compressor pulled it's own vacuum. Outside temp is about 95 degrees. Any ideas????

Sounds like you have a leak.

Yeah if you only had 10 psi before starting, it's (almost) all leaked out.
