Bench testing a HT6?

daman on Sat July 09, 2011 8:20 PM User is offlineView users profile

Want to test this comp before install was told it's a good one(used)rigged up a test manifold so i can bench check with vacuum pump and or shop air(PSI),anybody see a problem with testing using air pressure? sometimes they hold with vacuum but leak under pressure(just had it happen),thinking of 100 psi submerged in water, tested a known bad one and showed seam leak @100.

thoughts?

I use refrigerant and a sniffer- and/or dye to bench check with.

-------------------------
The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

Just that you won't find a slow leak...

Ahh i dunno the one i already tested had to be a slow leak, @ 100psi there were only a bubble or two every few mins. but proved good under vac.

I guess my point is i'm wondering if pressurizing the pump would "damage" it in any way,,IMO i don't think so as these pumps operate under 200-300PSI normally on the high side.

You might find a leak that way, but you could still have a bad compressor. It could have 1/8" deep gouges in cylinder walls, and still pass your test. The reed valves could leak, and still pass your test.

Try this instead:

Compressor testing
