Relief valve popping at low speed

KYGuy on Sun July 03, 2011 5:25 PM User is offline

Year: 2004
Make: Chevy
Model: Venture
Country of Origin: United States

Daughter has Chevy Venture and the AC will work at highway speeds. If she slows down or stops, the relief valve pops off. She has had it charged several times.

Any idea of the cause? She is now wanting to borrow my van.

Thanks.

Find out what the pressures are when it's popping off. Also replace the valve if it has not as many valves will not reset after setting off.

If the valve is bad, would it work OK at high speeds and then release at slow speed or when she stops?

When the valve is blowing off. It makes a difference if the high side pressures are 250 PSI or 460 PSI. . We need some data to try and help with your issue. Try checking the fans as suggested.

Will check the fans when she comes over tomorrow.

Thanks.

If it has a 3 wire sensor on the high side that is responsible for telling the computer when to start the fans, and should the pressure continue to rise, when to stop the compressor (designed to be before the relief valve pops). So if the sensor or wiring is bad you would have no fans and valve popping.
