Volvo experts coverting 88 volvo 240 DL to r134a

1988240DL on Sun June 19, 2011 5:02 PM User is offline

Year: 1988
Make: Volvo
Model: 240 DL
Refrigerant Type: r134a
Country of Origin: United States

I have been doing some research and been gathering the parts needed to covert my 1988 240 DL to r134a. I bought the OEM conversion kit r134a from volvo already and have looking for a condenser and compressor. What brand compressor is recommended for my conversion? What other AC hoses do I need to make this conversion work? There is one hose that included in the conversion kit. Can I use the my current hoses and will that be enough to make the system complete? Should i buy o rings from volvo or aftermarket? Does volvo sell a package deal for all the o rings needed? Also does someone make a parallel flow type condenser that drops right in and hooks up with oem hoses?

From what I have seen, this retrofit kit basically turns the system into a CCOT like the 91-93 models. Those have good AC, at least better than the pre 91 models.

Any quality o-ring will work fine. Flush all of the lines including the condenser. The old 240s have an old style condenser that can be flushed. Use a reman compressor with the proper amount of oil.

I'm not a fan of remans when other options are available. Tube & Fin condensers unless overly large! Will not provide the proper heat removal for R134a IMO. Get certified and use R12. It's still available and with the cost of R134a it's not out of the question to use it.
