2008 Chevy Aveo Comp. runs but air is hot

my2monkeys on Sun June 12, 2011 2:27 PM User is offline

Year: 2008
Make: chevy
Model: Aveo
Engine Size: 1.6ltr
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 70*f
Pressure Low: 15
Pressure High: 50
Country of Origin: United States

AC compressor will engage only after drivetrain is warmed up. Problem is it doesnt cool the air temp. down.

The refrig. lines don't get cold at all when comp. is running.

Low side is 15psi at 70*f outside temp.

High side is 50psi at 1000rpms

Why does clutch even engage with only 15psi on low side.

This is my neice's car so I don't know the history of the performance.

Thanks for any help.

TXV systems have the pressure switch on the high side. Once it starts even with very little refrigerant (like you have) it will keep running. The system is nearly empty. There must be a leak.
