my trying to help a friend with a r-12 system...he had a schrader valve leak, replace and recharged a 3lb 4 oz system with 3 lbs of r401a to see if the sysem would work..

compressor would kick on at 40 psi and go off at 20..head seemed high 250+.
low side seem to drop pretty quick 5-8 seconds!!

i added more freon and the compressor would run longer but head went sky high....

think i have a plugged orifice but though i double check with you guys!

we went for a ride to get some wind over the coil and the valves on the back side of the c0mpressor popped I know this was an overcharge!! but no cold air before this happend!!

How are the fans? Condenser clean? Any cold spots (frosting) on the high side.

Have you hosed down the condensor to see if pressures drop?
