2001 Honda Civic TRSA09 compressor isn't compressing

Make: Honda
Model: Civic
Refrigerant Type: 134A
Ambient Temp: 80f
Pressure Low: 95
Pressure High: 95

The clutch is DEFINITELY engaging. Visual verification! However pressures do not change. Low side 95psi, high side 95psi before engaging clutch. After engaging clutch, pressure drops slightly on both sides. I assume due to fan drawing air through condenser.

It sure looks like the compressor needs replacing. Does the lack of pressure change indicate that the compressor has spewed it's innards into the systems and would this require exhaustive flushing or extensive component replacement?

Or is the clutch just bad? Also can this compressor be rebuilt by a fairly competent DIYer.

heck the inlet of your expansion device, that will tell you f system is trashed. I usually just remove compressor and open it up to determine failure mode- then decide what to do. It's called an autopsy.

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

No one wants to hear the cost of any AC repair and the list of parts necessary to complete the repair. This is one of those that can drive most off the 'deep end'. The failure of this compressor is often so severe that in most cases the entire system should be replaced. The condenser is a must...the evap can normally be flushed and cleaned but considering the age and mileage of this vehicle it may be best to simply replace it. The TXV should be replaced,the hose/manifold should be flushed and cleaned completely. Be sure that the system is lubed and recharged properly. Failure to properly charge this system will result in a repeat failure and of course requires the expenditure of most cash. The scroll compressor utilized on this vehicle is a great performed...but when it fails....the system does become highly contaminated.
