jgcox6 on Fri February 25, 2011 9:05 PM User is offline

Year: 1998
Make: Dodge
Model: 1500 ram
Engine Size: 5.2l
Country of Origin: United States

Going to replace the accumulator and evaporator core on my 1998 Dodge Ram and need to know how much oil I should add to the system?....I think it is PAG 100???? Where would you put the oil in if you have the system apart at the accumulator...

Put it in the accumulator. Good way to judge this is to drill a hole in the bottom of the old accumulator. Measure how much drains out. Add that plus .5 of an ounce.

Equation for adding oil is actually quite simple. How much oil to add = Recommended capacity - oil remaining in the system.

Could apply some symbols. Oa = Oc - Or. But what in the hell is Or? Oil remaining. Could be zero if drained and flushed.

Sounds like the system has been opened for a period of time. Oil in the system would be filled with water at this point. Best bet is to Flush the remaining components along with draining the oil out of the compressor. Then add back the OEM specification.
