How much R134a to add...

emsvitil on Sat November 20, 2010 1:39 AM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 2002
Make: Ford
Model: Focus
Engine Size: 2.0
Refrigerant Type: r134a
Ambient Temp: 65
Pressure Low: ?
Pressure High: ?
Country of Origin: United States

Clutch cycling, low pressure turns off clutch system.

Haven't had a chance to put the gauge set on my parents car yet....

Anyway, about 3-4 years ago it was short cycling when it was on defrost with cool outside air temperatures.

Added about 1/2 can and rather than 15 second cycles, it went to about 2 minutes; so I quit adding and everything was fine.

The car is starting to short cycle again, and since I know of this forum; I figured I'd ask if there's a better way to add freon rather than just a guess.

At idle speed, 65 OAT; at what pressure on the low side gauge or how much time between cycles should I stop adding freon?

thanks

Ed

Ended up adding 1.5 oz

Rather than cycling off at 20, it's stable at 28 idle, 25 fast idle.

The sticker in the engine compartment is smudged out and unreadable.

Anbody know the the R134a capacity?
2002 SE Zetec.

Thanks
