Is dual air type condenser better?

wuntun87 on Tue September 21, 2010 3:28 AM User is offline

Year: 2004
Make: chevy
Model: silverado 3500
Engine Size: 6.6
Refrigerant Type: r134a
Ambient Temp: very hot
Pressure Low: good
Pressure High: good
Country of Origin: United States

i am changing out a leaking condenser in a 2004 chevy crew cab with duramax engine. An alternate listing for the condenser is the dual air (obviously the van and suburban platform) or the ambulance package. My question is, would it benefit better cooling to use this heavier duty condenser? Or will it make it perform worse? Thanks (HD only costs a little more)

I would think anything to improve heat removal efficiency would be a plus. Although if its capacity is different, it may create additional challenges in determining the correct charge.

It has always been the same condenser-- dual air most likely means means an orifice tube is not included in condenser outlet.

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

Same part, less pieces (no OT), presumed bigger (for dual air, HD), charge more for it... Brilliant!
