How much oil and freon required?

BG1 on Mon September 13, 2010 11:19 AM User is offline

Year: 1976
Make: Pontiac
Model: Firebird
Engine Size: 455
Refrigerant Type: r12
Country of Origin: United States

I have taken the compressor off and drained it and getting ready to flush the system but I need to know how much oil and freon the system needs. I tried to look it up on the chart but it does not go back to 1976. Thanks

Couldn't find the oil volume but it takes 52oz of R-12

If this car has an A6 compressor the compressor has a check plug near the bottom. It holds about 10oz of oil. Originally You checked the oil with it charged, loosened the bolt and if oil came out it had enough. Besides the 10oz you should also add 3-4oz to the lines for O-Ring lube.

If it's not an A6 disregard every thing I just said.
