How do you recover/drain a A/C system

Year: 1999
Make: Jeep
Model: XJ
Engine Size: 4.0L
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 100

For those of us who are shade tree mechanics (driveway warriors) how do you drain(recover) refrigerant from your system? I know how to add R143a to the system, but I want to drain and start all over so I know exactly how much is in the system.

1) scroll up towards the top of this page.

2) type: recover refrigerant into the google search box (ensure "Auto A/C Information Forum" is selected).

3) start reading.

There's a ton of information about it on this site alone. get coffee or other favorite beverage, you'll be there a while.
