Not my car but a friend asked: 98 DeVille. Low 90psi/High 0. Oily discharge from register vents. Shot compressor and hole in evap?

Really only two ways to get an oily residue on the vents. Heater core or evap leak. I don't see this very often unless a core really lets go. might check to see if someone has been using some dash protectant. Double check that the high side was attached correctly.

Residue was being blown out of the vents. AC was fine until one day it started blowing hot air. Says clutch is engaging and compressor appears to be turning. I suggested he check if refrigerant present and if so, evacuate and see if vacuum holds.

Cads will shut down the compressor if the system is low, seems more like the gauges aren't hooked up right and depressing the shrader valve.. But you do need to find what it's blowing out the vents, antifreeze can be very harmful, if it's refrigerant and oil the compressor would have shut down long ago...

Blowing oil out the vents seems pretty odd. You would have to have a large leak for that to happen in my opinion. I would tend to think it's more heater related.
