Fill system as liquid?

slockm on Wed July 21, 2010 2:22 PM User is offline

I've had several people tell me to recharge my A/C as a liquid by turning the cans upside down (engine off) and filling into the High and/or Low side.

Can someone give a more detailed explanation of this procedure. Are there any benefits? I was told it is much faster. Can all cans be filled in this manner, or only the first one? Any ideas?

I know nothing...seriously

Do not fill as liquid into the High side. First: recharging from replacing some part in the system? Was the system evacuated and does it hold vacuum? Always post vehicle information you are asking about

You can charge one or more cans into the high side as a liquid WITH THE ENGINE OFF. Engine running and compressor engaged, you have to charge as a gas through the low side. It is indeed faster to charge as a liquid, and this method is better for the compressor since it is running with a greater percentage of the total charge, thus better oil return. I've never been able to get more than part of the first can in as a liquid, but then again, none of the systems I've dealt with held more than 2.5 cans.
