What Happens to the New Oil when Evacuating

4.0_olds on Sun July 18, 2010 6:56 PM User is offline

Year: 2001
Make: Carraro
Model: TRX-6400
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Country of Origin: Italy

In a completely empty system I added the proper amount of oil to the compressor and my next step is to evacuate with a deep vacuum. I'm wondering now if the vacuum will try to boil the new oil off that I just added. I have an oil injection thingy. Should I have injected the oil after the vacuum?

Thanks

Normal vacuum will not remove the oil. You're safe to go..

What would be a "normal" vacuum. I have a digital micron gauge and was hoping to get it pretty low and let it sit for a week under vacuum before charging. Is there a particular micron number that I should not go lower than?

A week is over kill on an automotive system, no need for it.. As long as it holds as low as you can go for an hour or so is fine, most pumps say they can pull between 50 and 25 microns.. But if you can get anything under 100 is plenty..
