Year: 1979
Make: pont
Model: Trans Am
Engine Size: 403
Refrigerant Type: R12
Ambient Temp: 95
Pressure Low: 38
Pressure High: 52
Country of Origin: United States

I replaced my dryer and o tube today because the temp at my vents was only 70D so after I pumped it down and started to recharge I noticed on my second pound that the high side reading was not coming up it was at 52 so I decided to try one more pound to see if it would come on up but after three cans of R12 it was still at H52 and L38 do you think I need a new compressor,by the way after new o tube and dryer and one hour pump down the temp at the vents was still the same 70D

Not enough refrigerant in it yet. You have 3, 12 ounce cans in it - not even 3 pounds. Check the sticker on the radiator support. Should be 48 to 52 ounces - is this an A6 or R4 compressor?

It is a a6 but with three pounds it should be higher than 52 it should be around 100?

There is no chart for a partially charged system. With a 25f delta across the evaporator and a partial charge, who knows what the high side should be.

Get the full charge in it so you can evaluate the system.
