AC blows warm, compressor spins, odd pressures!

ravioli on Sat May 08, 2010 10:19 PM User is offline

Year: 2001
Make: Mercedes
Model: E430
Engine Size: 4.3
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 85
Pressure Low: 95
Pressure High: 145
Country of Origin: United States

My AC degraded from icy cold to warm in the span of about 3 weeks. Seeing that the compressor was engaging, I figured it was a simple low refrigerant issue. When I went to pour a can of 134a into the system, the low port wouldn't accept it because there was too much pressure at the valve. Bought some gauges and at ~1500 rpm the pressures settled in to the numbers posted.

From what I've garnered thus far from extensive reading I'm thinking that the compressor is going south but it has made no unusual sounds or noises leading to this point to indicate it was failing.

What do you guys think? Bad compressor? Restriction in the system? All of the AC hoses are warm to touch .. no sign of cooling at all.

Thanks in advance!

For starters I would want to know I had the proper refrigerant capacity in the vehicle. I would reclaim the refrigerant pull a vacuum and recharge to OEM specs. If I still had the same readings I would look at the expansion valve or the compressor as areas of concern.
