SPELL CHECK

iceman2555 on Fri June 20, 2008 12:30 PM User is offlineView users profile

Is it simply a new age...or does any one no longer give a 'rats ass' about correct spelling.......if in doubt....check the 'check spelling box'.....it is amazing..it works....

Yeah that's almost as bad as in typing in "caps lock"

like the title of this thread.........

-------------------------
The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

I'm not complaining. People are using complete sentences and typing complete words. Not that text message short-cut acronym crap like : BTW, FTW, LOL, IIRC

All Caps to draw attention to a matter.
Amen to the test message abbreviations.
Just seems that recently the spelling on various threads has become atrocious. Received a report last week, hand writing was legible....but the customers spelling was....almost ridiculous.....and noticed some post today.....seems like 'e bionics' is becoming the 'norm'. Sorta like Orwell's 1984, "New Speak"...but then with cameras at different locations....."Big Brother' is just around the corner.

Reference the other post...A6 stuff.....and it was not your post. Just read a post from someone who had a very technical position.....but the spelling......wow.....love to read one of his invoices.

Guess that post was a bit superfluous....but the issue remains that the children of today are not being taught or simply do not care to better themselves or learn. Seems the 'entitlement' issue exceeds even into the educational system. It is no wonder that other parts of the globe are rapidly over taking the US in so many fields. Before anyone gets on the high horse and starts a debate about patriotism....know that time was spent in the wondrous far eastern land of swaying palms....warn tropical rain showers...better known as 'monsoons'....and lest we forget.....'love the smell of napalm in the morning'.......but the issue remains. Our education system (public) is simply lacking....or is it simply another symptom of a 'lazy' attitude that implies that certain skills are not longer relevant.
But then, it is supposed that the 'lazy' attitude may be the real reason....since many seem to feel that this basic skill is not longer necessary.....but what is next...but then that is already apparent in the daily news.....is it really the 'dumbing down' of kids rapidly becoming the norm.
This aspect is even more evident in the number of 'tech' calls received concerning the amount of lubricant in supplied compressors. The box reads, 'COMPRESSOR IS SHIPPED DRY' (sorry GM Tech for the caps). Even that is not sufficient....but then, when first introduced to automotive repair, it was learned to never assume anything...always check and recheck to insure correct procedures were being followed...thus insuring that the best and most productive repair could be facilitate. Why would any reasonable tech (?) assume that the compressor was indeed shipped with the correct amount/quality of lube....also considering that it is impossible to ship every compressor with the correct type/amount for every repair. It was learned early that a compressor should always be drained and the correct amount and type lubricant added back to the unit.
The lack of spelling skills is the result of another lost skill.....reading.
TRB,typing speed does indeed lead to an occasional missed word....however, from what is read on different sites...is simply not a key stroke mistake but a blatant lack of knowledge.
bearing01, text messages are an entirely new language......this must require some measure of intelligence.....actually seems as if those using this new language are actually writing a new language code...definitely a new 'shorthand' skill.

I don't really mind the text message-inspired shorthand that is becoming very common these days. BTW, AFAIK, IIRC, etc.

What does annoy me is improper grammar such as using an apostrophe to denote a plural or when someone doesn't know the difference between jealousy and envy.

All in all, this forum isn't too bad really. I'm a member on a couple that whose members use terrible grammar.
