Clutch friction surface finish is optimal between smooth and rough. Too smooth is also undesirable.
I prefer Iscar cutting mills and lathe, carbide insert, tools from Israel.
Gear cutting hobbs (for the anti-rotation gear on a wobble plate compressor) can have a profile that results in gears which have a optimized profile at full load (but a deformed profile at light loads when contact is not critical). This is also effective for gear boxes and transmissions. Kinn'a like designing a trailer bed or a hydro dam.
