Jumping Pressure Switch

Post by philipk65 »

Hi,
I'm trying diagnose my '91 Chevy S-10 R12 issues. I'm waiting on a GM high side adapter to test pressures.
But in the mean time, I jumped to lower pressure switch and the compressor kept running.
What does that indicated?
Thanks Kevin

That may indicate that you're trying to ruin your compressor. You need to monitor both lo and hi sides.

I read online to jump the switch and see if the compressor runs... I did it for 3 seconds.
What does that tell me?

Like I said before!... I'm waiting on an adapter to test both side.

Your original post stated that you jumped the switch and compressor kept running. Get both gauges installed and then come back with info.

O.K. here are my pressure readings...
at 79 degrees outside temp.

High side- 100 when compressor off and 110 when it runs (on and off ever 3 seconds)

Low side- 94 when the compressor is off and 97 when it runs (on and off ever 3 seconds)

Whats the probable cause for the cycle rapidly?

Thanks!

Have you checked for leaks and repaired them?

Yes, no leaks.
I think I misread the gauges before. I checked them again.
low side - 40 (compressor off) 21 (when compressor is on)
high side - 102 (compressor off) 120(when compressor is on)
cycles rapidly....

The answer will depend entirely on which engine is in the vehicle.
