2014 GM Truck - Compressor?

Post by spurshooter »

I've worked on a couple earlier (2008 & 2000) GM truck AC systems, but this one has some differences and I don't have manuals for it. I was a member here years ago and learned the basics of servicing here. But my account seems to be gone.

I noticed my AC isn't cooling yesterday. I only drive the truck about half the month, but lately, I don't think we needed AC anyway and the climate control was probably just heating with the cool weather we had been having.

In the past few days we've had warm weather in Socal and I couldn't get cool air. I put the gauges on it and got essentially no pressures. I put a can in it and the clutch engaged, but pressures were only about 30 psi. with the clutch engaged. Today, I pulled the big air cleaner box out of the way and cleaned up the engine bay in anticipation of having to do some work in there.

I noted that the compressor (clutch snout) was free to turn with no resistance, none! Do I have a broken shaft? Or is the clutch different on a 2014 GM truck?

Also, I'd like to pull the orifice and check it to see how bad a situation I'm dealing with, but I don't see an obvious location for an orifice/screen. I'd appreciate a little guidance/advice with this system.

Thanks much

I pulled the low and high lines to the evaporator at the firewall. The PAG looks clean. (whew).

I'll pull the system down and isolate it next to see if I have leaks.

The system won't hold a vacuum. Goes to ambient in a few minutes.

This old board seems pretty slow. Did some of the resident experts find a new home?

hello it has been years since I was here also and i am kind of seeing the same thing with the forum "not a lot of activity" On your 2014 GM truck AC system problem there is a known problem on the AC line right at the compressor. They have a newly redesigned line and they should fix this for free at your favorite dealerships service department. The old line is stressed and simply cracks open. Are you a member of the GM Trucks forum? That is an awesome forum and very active for GM truck owners, check it out if you get a chance. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/1 ... hl=ac+line

Maybe they did. Maybe the AC systems are breaking down less. Maybe less folks are trying to repair their own. I'm not an expert, but doesn't take an expert to diagnose the issue below.
