10 mitsubishi galant 2.4

Post by Jdeaton01 »

What's up everyone. I'm Justin I just bought a 2010 galant 2.4.

The a/c is not working, the green a/c light and the high speed fan come on when I turned the knob.

I jumped compressor relay and it made an awful noise then I noticed the high speed fan and light does not come on anymore.

Compressor relay still has power and will still make awful noise if I jump it, the 10 amp a/c fuse still has power, and the fans still come on low if I jump the relay.

instead of making headway, I've caused a headache that I hope you all can help me get back to at least in the position I was in before this.

I have not checked for pressure yet, if I do before someone responds I will add it.

Thanks

First comment: Don't jumper anything. Doing so has the potential of making matters worse and more expensive to repair.

When you say "awful noise," does it sound like the belt is squealing, or something else? If the former, the compressor might be seized.

It is not a good idea to jumper out anything in a modern mobile AC system. You are bypassing various protections in the circuit.
It sure doesn't sound good that you are getting a bad sound, stop jumpering.
Did the AC work at any time while you owned the car?
Has any work been done to the system?
Has anyone "topped off" the refrigerant? added any sealer?
If the comp is not running, then you won';t be able to get pressures.
Do you own any testing equipment such as a VOM (volt-ohm meter)
Is this a US car?

John is quick at the keys.....

Yes, I realized the jumper was not a good idea. Yes I know I did it twice.

The belt did not squeal, it's more like a chatter/ rattle.

Yes I own a Multimeter.

No the a/c has never worked since I've owned it.

Nobody to my knowledge has worked on the system.

With the engine and system off, try to rotate the center section of the clutch by hand—the driven part attached to the compressor's main-shaft, not the pulley the belt runs over. It should turn with moderate resistance. If it doesn't turn at all, even with some muscle, the compressor probably has failed.
