The trick was to notch bolt hole in the bracket where it bolts to the block. That lets you pull the compressor with bracket still attached, just by loosening the rear bolt to the block. Also replacing the stud with a bolt made access much easier.

She's flushed, in, and sitting holding a vacuum overnight to make sure no leaks.
