Overcharged A/C system

Post by costajus »

Hi everyone ... had a customer bring me a Chrysler Grand Voyager today for a regas.

He said his garage had fitted a new compressor but their machine for adding R134a was fauty so they could not refill it.

The compressor was not coming on so I popped my gauges on and was shocked to see the low side was reading well over 100psi and it was only about 15 degrees C today. I suspected it was overfilled so I vacuumed it and weighed the gas coming out and there was 2.2Kg gas in the system which is designed to take 1.15Kg (it has rear air con)

My question is .... with that much gas in there how likely is it that they have ruined the new compressor?

They've put 1kg too much in and I assume liquid refrigerant has gone into the compressor and destroyed it?

Any info appreciated - I am not used to seeing vehicles which have been overfilled with gas.
