V5 shaft seal leak

Post by 71403 »

Replaced shaft seal late last summer and it seemed ok. Held over winter but started using it this summer and found clutch wet with oil again. This AM found clutch wet with oil _again_ so tore it down to get a better look at shaft seal area since it only seems to leak while running.

Assuming it is leaking from the shaft area, is this shaft too far gone from salt/corrosion?

I've never had this issue- and have resealed hundreds of V-5s. I assume you are using double lip seal shaft seals. If in doubt, go ahead and polish the shaft- fine emory cloth or metal polish. there is a chance leak is from shaft seal o-ring- If wrong size was used- there-in lies the problem- hopefully you replaced the o-ring.

You could try cleaning that up, I figure it should be real smooth.

If mine, I'd just get new, the weather gals are saying 120F here Tuesday.....
