Cross-threaded Schrader Valve

Post by robmaxfli »

I went to remove my old Schrader valve to replace it using the cheap little tool from Autozone. It starts twisting and backing out - but then it won't back out any longer . I tried grabbing with needle-nose pliers - while twisting and pulling but no go.

How can I get this valve out without damaging the internal threads?

thanks!

All I can think of is penetrating oil spray. spray it on the threads that are already visible screw it back in let it sit for an hour or two to let the oil do its thing and then try again with the autozone tool / pliers. doing anything else risks stripping or damaging the threads.

Sometimes a drywall fine thread screw will allow you to get it out as a last resort. Also, you may be able to find an adaptor like a tee that has it's own shrader in it.
