1992 Cavalier temp vents.

Post by 70monte »

What is the average acceptable vent temp for the above car with an ambient outside temp of 91 degrees and humid? This car is still running R12 and the system was repaired back in 2007 or 2008 with all new components other than the evap and lines.

I'm getting 47 degrees at the center vent at the lowest fan setting and about 50 degrees at setting #2. It's probably a little higher at the higher fan settings.

It seems like it used to be colder but I'm not sure. So should my vent temps be lower or are my readings acceptable given the outside temps?

I would say you're pretty close to max performance. You lose about 6 degrees from evap temp to vent temp.

Thanks for the info. Years ago when I repaired the system, all I had was the cans of R12 and a little scale so I'm sure I didn't get the exact amount in that was required. I now have what's left of a 50lb tank and a proper scale for the tanks so the next time around I should be good.
